Modern Slavery Policy

Last updated: 30/08/25

1. Introduction

Gillingham Street Angels is committed to acting ethically and with integrity in all areas of our work. We take a zero-tolerance approach to modern slavery, human trafficking, forced labour, and exploitation.

As a grassroots charity supporting vulnerable people across Medway and the surrounding areas, we recognise our responsibility to prevent modern slavery in all its forms within our own operations and to raise awareness in the wider community.

2. Our commitment

We are committed to:

  • Ensuring there is no modern slavery or human trafficking in any part of our charity’s activities.

  • Working with partners, suppliers, and supporters who share our values and comply with relevant laws.

  • Promoting awareness among staff, trustees, and volunteers so they understand the signs of modern slavery and know how to report concerns.

3. Our activities and supply chains

Our activities include foodbanks, meal initiatives, recycling projects, volunteering opportunities, and wellbeing services. While our supply chains are limited and mainly involve donations, local suppliers, and community partnerships, we remain vigilant to the risks of exploitation.

We take steps to ensure that:

  • Suppliers and partners are assessed, where appropriate, for their compliance with anti-slavery principles.

  • We do not knowingly work with any organisation involved in modern slavery or human trafficking.

  • Donations of goods are ethically sourced to the best of our knowledge.

4. Training and awareness

We provide guidance and resources to our staff, trustees, and volunteers to help them:

  • Recognise the potential signs of modern slavery or exploitation.

  • Understand how to raise and report concerns safely.

  • Act responsibly and with integrity in all their roles.

5. Reporting concerns

Anyone connected with Gillingham Street Angels — including staff, volunteers, service users, and partners — is encouraged to report any concerns about modern slavery or exploitation. Concerns can be raised confidentially with a trustee or via [insert contact email/phone].

We will take all reports seriously and act promptly, including referring matters to the relevant authorities if required.

6. Review of this policy

This policy will be reviewed annually by our Board of Trustees to ensure it remains effective and up to date.
